Harvey

«It’s a curious tale; a dark and hysterical farce, a journey from a tiny bourgeois living room to a modern madhouse. But who is Harvey, the domineering and curmudgeonly invisible rabbit? An angel? A devil? A genius? Another version of you; one meant to expose you or punish you? “Who is the madman?” ask the Chesire cats, who’ve all been transformed into rabbits…How do you know if you’re mad? Have you seen Harvey?

The playwright Mary Chase takes us for a walk (in more ways than one), from a stuffy parlour to a modern private clinic. She deftly alternates between uproarious humour, tenderness and suspense to tell the story of Elwood P. Dowd and his rabbit.

The piece vacillates between farce and malice, madness and kind-heartedness, loneliness and sweet empathy. And most importantly, Chase creates Elwood, a fanciful and troubling character who is fearless in the face of curses, cruelty, and the unknown. An active dreamer who lives a double life and whose only desire is to take Harvey for a drink at Charlie’s, their favourite bar… »
