Presented in Hamburg in August, the latest creations by New York choreographer and dancer Lucinda Childs are a symphony to minimalism. Two group pieces and two solos make up these Four New Works. For the group pieces, Childs has invited her long-time friend Philip Glass to create the score, which also includes compositions by cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir. As for the two solos, which she performs herself, one is based on an unpublished text by John Cage and a video installation by Anri Sala, while the other was created for Frank Gehry’s 90th birthday to a composition by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Tunes, voices, lights, and bodies: welcome to the elegant yet minimalist world of Lucinda Childs.
