There’s a whiteboard with white borders. A completely white board. A canvas as white as an empty page. Then there are three friends: Marc, Serge, and Yvan, one of whom hates the painting that the other has just bought at great expense, while the third is groping and hesitating, not really knowing what to make of it, and has other preoccupations, such as getting married soon. The whole question of art and the viewer unfolds around this white painting, a pretext for questioning the very meaning of Life. Yasmina Reza’s writing is both funny and cruel, alternately a dialogue and an address to the audience. The playwright superbly mocks morality and tackles the very essence of friendship as much as she questions the love of beauty. Her play, which has been translated into thirty-five languages and won two Molières and a Tony Award, is brought to the stage by the illustrious and wonderful François Morel, Olivier Broche, and Olivier Saladin, and promises an arty, colourful experience.
